Full Video Analysis: Gevey Supreme iPhone 4 Unlock is Authentic

Most of the world’s electronics are made in China so as soon as there’s a new hot product that comes out of the market, news travel very fast and rumors even faster – just like the Gevey Supreme – the world’s first “untethered” iPhone 4 unlock – which unlocks your iPhone 4 without the need to dial 112 (or any emergency number) and toggling the Airplane mode.

Our supplier had provided us with the following video which shows how Gevey Supreme unlocked the iPhone 4 ‘without any operation.’

We asked for a clearer video especially the part when it’s showing the ‘About’ screen but they’re not able to do it for now. We’re not going to accept and believe the video blindly so we decided to analyze the video for its authenticity.

To determine if this is a truly locked iPhone 4, we need to be sure of the following:

  1. Model number – it must be factory-locked model
  2. Modem firmware version (baseband) – it must be anything but version 1.59.00 (2.10.04, 3.10.01 and 4.10.01 cannot be unlocked with a software)

Obviously, the quality of the video is bad – and you won’t be able to see the model number and baseband version clearly.

So, we took a snapshot of the video and inverted the colors. Highlighted and zoomed into the image.

Here’s what we found:

  • Modem firmware (baseband) version is 4.10.01 and we all know that there’s no software unlock available.

We were tipped off by our supplier that manufacturers are working on using the same chip as Gevey Pro so that you won’t need to trim your SIM card. In the video above the larger chip is used.

There you have it – despite all the rumors saying that Gevey Supreme is fake, the video above is a testimonial that it’s genuine. Expected time of release is over the next few days.

iH8sn0w’s f0recast Updated to Version 1.3 for Windows and Mac

f0recast is a very handy program developed by iH8sn0w to determine if your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch can be jailbroken (or unlocked). If you are new to jailbreaking and unlocking, this is an essential tool for you.

The latest version 1.3 released by iH8sn0w a few hours ago will give you the latest “forecast” on jailbreaking/unlocking your device.

In the screenshot above it shows that there’s no software unlock available for iPhone 4 and it’s only possible using a Turbo SIM.

Gevey Pro Plus Automatic “Untethered Unlock” for iPhone 4 without Dialling 112

According to our supplier, the manufacturer of Gevey Pro Plus in China is in their final stage of testing the final version of the Gevey Turbo SIM series.

UPDATE: You can now unlock any AT&T iPhone officially and permanently using this.

Gevey Pro Plus is a more intelligent Turbo SIM that does all the unlocking steps for you – making the unlock for iPhone 4 “virtually untethered.” Simply insert your SIM card, and it will do everything for you in the background. Essentially it still dials 112, switching the Airplane Mode On/Off, but you will not see all those on the screen; just as the packaging says “Without Any Operation.”

The whole automation will take between 90 and 120 seconds. This latest line will come in a bright yellow packaging, and possibly with a wider chip and custom SIM tray that doesn’t require you to trim the corner of your Micro SIM card.

sherif_hashim Successfully Erased Baseband 6.15.00 Files, Possible to Reflash with Older Baseband

It’s been a while since we last heard about baseband related hacks from the iPhone Dev Team.

sherif_hashim is bringing some good news for us today – he managed to erase the files on a baseband chip that has modem firmware 6.15.00. Technically, according to him, you can reflash the baseband with an earlier version of iOS that has baseband 5.13.04 or lower.

In his Twitter:

Successfully erased the 6.15 BB files http://twitpic.com/51co5p , should accept new BB flash files now, or at least i thought so :)

This is probably the best news we’ve heard since… mmm…. ages ago.

The image above shows Firmware Version as “unknown,” pretty much like a hard disk ready to receive data for writing.

This is how we believe the process should work:

  1. Erase baseband 6.15.00 files with the hack developed by sherif_hashim (Erasing a baseband chip is very risky! You may end up bricking your device)
  2. Create custom firmware with baseband 5.13.04 or lower, for iPhone 3G, restore directly via iTunes with firmware 4.0.1 or below, for 3GS, if you have SHSH for 4.0.1, you restore to this version
  3. Restore successful with baseband 5.13.04 or lower
  4. Jailbreak and install ultrasn0w 1.2.3 to unlock
  5. GPS fixed!

Let’s hope that there will be more good news as people are desperate to get their GPS back. At the same time, those who are stuck with baseband 5.14.02, 5.15.04 and 5.16.02 may finally be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
