Now that iOS 5 is out, why don’t you upgrade your iPhone now?
These custom firmware were made using sn0wbreeze 2.8b8. It will preserve your baseband – that means it will not update your baseband, so you can still unlock your iPhone.
Since the jailbreak is still tethered, you will need to use iBooty 2.3 or redsn0w to boot your device to a jailbroken state. If you don’t need a jailbreak, you don’t need to worry about this.

Note for iPhone 4 and 3GS unlockers:
- iPhone 4 – Gevey Turbo SIM works with iOS 5 as long as you don’t have baseband 4.11.08 (the custom firmware above will preserve your baseband anyway). I believe Ultra’s furiousmod is broken in iOS 5. So you need to operate it manually or use a Gevey Blue (My favorite – works better than Ultra, stable, no 112, no jailbreak required – ask me about it).
- iPhone 3GS - ultrasn0w 1.2.4 is now ready but it’s only compatible with baseband 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and 06.15.00 (6.15 is an iPad baseband which breaks your GPS). If you have baseband 5.14.02, 5.15.04, 5.16.02 and 5.16.05 – the only way is to update it to 6.15.00 with redsn0w.

Note: there’s a special “trick” that iPhone3GS owners with baseband 06.15 need for iOS5. During the new setup screens you see when you start iOS5 for the first time, you’ll be asked about Location Services. Be sure to select “Disable Location Services” when asked! Later on in the setup, you’ll have the chance to turn on Location Services again when asked if you want to use “Find my iPhone”. It’s fine to turn it back on at that point, if that’s your desire (or you can always go in and enable it in Settings.app).

my question is, if i already upgraded to Ios 5 ( i know im stupid but anyway) would this custom firmware solve my problem, or I am already screwed? On the other hand i just need a confirmation the hacktivated means, i dont need to activate the phone after i installed thies firmware. Am i right?

What kind of problem are you having? Yes, it will activate it without the need of using an official SIM card.
first i had the problem with ios 5 because it upgraded my baseband as well. now i was able to downgrade to baseband 04.10.01-ICE_2_13 and if im riight if i can keep this baseband than i will be able to use my iphone with ios5 and gevey card. ( correct me if im wrong. So im downloading the cooked firmware above ( the hacktivated one) and i am about to install it with itunes. will it work? what do you think?
yes, as long as you have baseband 4.10.01, you can unlock it with Gevey Turbo SIM.

So this method of preserving baseband will need the phone to be in tether jailbreak right? The above statement make me confuse, "If you don’t need a jailbreak, you don’t need to worry about this (tether boot?)." Does that mean if I only need to preserve my baseband, I don't need to tether boot the device? I can just do option and restore on my MAC??? please clarify!
if you don't need a jailbreak, you can download Custom iOS 5 Not Jailbreaken, Not Activated (official carrier SIM required) from above. It's basically a "stock" firmware that preserves your baseband. Then tethered and untethered boot are not applicable in this case.

sorry for the late reply, i was the one who was able to downgrade the baseband. Since Im not that big hacker ( or hacker at all) I am not perfectly sure I can explain what i did. But here are few steps that i followed. I have tinnyumbrella that read out 3 different shs s. On the other hand i was using redsn0w latest version, and ive downloaded lots of different firmware files that matches to those 3 shsh s. When i tried first i had error message like for hours ( i just spent the whole friday with trying to solve this problem) anyway after all i was able to downgrade to 4.3.5 and it also downgraded the baseband. SInce i felt i rule the world, ive gone even further and downgroaded to 4.2.1 and i got gevey working. I am not saying the last step was neccesary just for some reason i couldnt get gevey working on 4.3.5 ( maybe it was my fault as i did not know about counting the seconds, i just called right away 112 anyway it didnt work) but wuth 4.2.1 i was smart enough to read the instrucktions and i am happy working iphone owner again.So tinyumrella rendsnow and the propitiate firmware the key. Also i need to mention but i would not recommend for anyone( since i was desperate i had nothing to lose) that i run jailbreak even if i got message from itunes with displaying some kind of shity error code. I did not give a damn and i run the jaulbreak process. So thats why im telling you, i dont know exactly what i did, as you can see I have a gambler personality. ANyway my next step would be to upgrade to the hacktivated preserve baseband firmware that you posted on the top of this page, but im receiving error code, and since I finally got my iphone working, I am not that brave anymore. good luck guys.

the custom IPSW may be corrupted when you downloaded it, you can download it again, or get a copy of sn0wbreeze from ih8sn0w.com and build the custom iOS 5 yourself

remember the jailbreak is tethered… download latest redsnow 0.9.9b5 (Mac) or 0.9.9b4 (Windows), launch it, go to Extras > Just Boot.
Yes, I realise that, but I should still be able to boot my phone. The fact that it is tethered just stops me from using cydia or safari. Also, I am unable to turn my device into dfu mode, so cannot 'just boot' through redsn0w. Any other ideas?
doing the DFU is tricky, but try again, there are tutorials on YouTube
i dont want to take anyone into the bush but when i had the same problem ( stuck at boot) i just gone to the recovery fix in redsnow and also in tinyumbrealla. I dont know which one helped, but thank god the boot problem was solved after i put my phone into dfu and let to reboot trough redsnow . SINCE I AM NOT AN EXPERT AT ALL, IM JUST THINKING LOUDLY. DO NOT FOLLOW WHAT IVE DONE AS I CANT HELP YOU IF YOU BRICKED YOUR PHONE.

The only thing that i noticed was, that when you are trying to unlock the phone with the Gevey Sim, there is no one bar when you accept the pop up. But it works fine through.

Hi, So I have an IPhone 3gs what was jailbroken for me during the summer. I got told that when upgrading i have to first sync and then the jailbreak will go away. I did but forgot to chek and upgraded to ios 5. Now my phone is bricked in the activation part saying that the activation server is temporarily down. It has been saying that for the last 4 days… I called Apple care support and they said it is because of the jailbreak. Also i tried downgrading to ios 4 but not possible…. when I connect it to my computer it says NO_SIM_CARD even though there is a sim card… I am stuck with no results after many days of research. What should i do?

Just had one 1600 error, but that went when connected through a diff USB port.

this is incredible, good job guys, i was able to downgrade iOS as well as the baseband, i'm now trying to preserve baseband and install ios5. did the stupid mistake of upgrading without checking if gevey sim is supported.
use redsnow "recovery fix" if you get stuck with 1604 iTunes error and do dfu again and it worked like a charm.
now trying to install ios5 with preserved baseband, i was fortunate to have access to another mac with iTunes 10.4.1 so no need to reinstall iTunes.

Restore again with custom iOS 5 (not hacktivated) since you have an AT&T SIM that you can use to activate it? (I'm assuming that you're locked to AT&T)
ultimately i will be running the iphone for tmobile. the at&t sim was just to see if that would give me service since its an at&t iphone. im just worried that the gevey sim will not work, because it says it only supports up to 4.3.5.

I tried to restore my 3gs 6.15.00 with downloaded firmware, but always pops out error 2005. I entered pwned DFU, started Tinyumbrella because of error 3194. I tried to switch USB ports, data cables, reinstall itunes, usb drivers, turn off firewall, everything i found on google

Now the problem is that redsnow and snowbreez both keep on ssying that the ispw is not supported.
I dont understand. Should I go ahead and restore my iphone to that ispw file from itunes or is the file you gave corrupted or something.

Did everything correctly (I think) and made sure I used the jailbroken and hacktivated software and booted with redsn0w and I still can't get past the activation screen. I seem to be the only one having this problem, am I missing something? Good work here by the way!

Re-downloaded it and it worked, but now the damn Gevey isn't working… BB's preserved and whatnot. Black "accept" screen is coming up, but not getting the 1 bar signal anymore. Tried toggling airplane mode even if i didn't get the one bar signal. No luck. Any idea what's up with it? Have 3g off and data roaming on, think that's what worked for me when I was on 4.3.5. Although I have tried with each of them off, both on etc. and still no luck. Am i doing something wrong? (again)

Now my problem is i cant get Gevey Sim to work. Any ideas? I have gone into the phone – sim application – and received the gevey pop screen. I dialled 112 and hung up. Hi, i just need to downgrade the IOS from 5.0 to some version at which i can use a Turbo SIM. My objective is to use this phone in another country and come back to US after that and continue to use it on my provider from there on. Would it be ok and would it work if i just downgrade the itunes, downgrade the IOS by DFU method and activate & then use Turbo Sim later? I dont want to installed the hacked version of IOS5. Does my idea sound okay?
