Whited00r custom firmware (IPSW) was developed to support older models of iPhone such as 2G and 3G and iPod Touch 1st and 2nd generation. The hardware of these older devices is not optimized to run iOS 4.0 and above and many experienced sluggish performance on their device.
Whited00r came along and provides an alternative for these older devices to run on iOS 4.0+. Essentially the firmware is based on iOS 3.1.3 but added with features from iOS 4.0 and above.
Some of the features mentioned on their website:

There are 2 versions for each custom firmware:
- Normal – If you can legitimately activate you device via iTunes AND you don’t need carrier unlock (you have the original SIM card or your iPhone is factory unlocked)
- Unlocked – If you do not have the original carrier SIM and need the unlock. Note: Push-Notifications patch is required after the installation. Note: unlocked if your baseband version is 5.13.04 or below.
Both Normal and Unlocked firmwares are jailbroken with Cydia installed.
For each of the above you can choose between Full or Lite version.

- Lite – better performance as multitasking and home wallpaper are disabled

Hmm.. Nice.. i tried my self.. Pretty good Performance on iPhone3G and No need of unlock too even if u in 6.15BB( U need to disable home screen wall paper for best performance)
and in Firmware version it shows 3.1.3 only :( i dont know yet wether we can install iOS 4.2.1 Apps on this

I have iphone 3g ios 3.1.3 baseband 05.12.01 and i want to get ios 4.2.1 without upgrading my baseband to 5.14 or 5.15!
will this custom firmware help to keep my baseband where it is and upgrade the firmware to 4.2.1 without loosing my unlock?

i Think you should wait.. Dev team has some news on 5.14 o 5.15 BB unlock.. but only after official release of iOS 4.3

hi i have a 3g that was on iOS 4.2.1 now running iOS 4.1 by the use of a saved SHSH file while also running baseband 6.15.00……….i 've tried to restore it with whited00r 4.2.1 using the iTunes application but i keep on getting an 1015 error code…what do i need to do to make this work??? do i need to restore back to iOS 4..2.1 then after that restore using whited00r 4.2.1 and then jailbreak with redsn0w again??? any help would be greatly appreciated : )

i was able to install whited00r onto my3g, but now when i go into redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 and i select browse it asks me to verify which ipsw to look for which i do then it scans my phone and now it says unable to recognize specified IPSW now what should i do????????

whited00r install works on my 3g bcuz i've got the video camera option, multitasking, and wallpapers etc…what do you mean by if it's not for you!?!?!?!?but when i went into redsn0w to verify all the options i got that strange message saying that the ipsw was not recognized….should i still restore it back using the link that you sent to me!?!!?!?!
do you have Cydia installed? Then no need to use redsn0w anymore

Yea I just saved the .shsh blob but it only lists six of my previous .shsh saves and I didn’t see the newest whited00r .shsh save btw I used tinyumbrella to save the .shsh blob
