How to Unlock iPhone 3GS (Install Ultrasn0w 1.2.4) on iOS 5 if WiFi is Broken

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic!

OK, so you managed to install iOS 5 with custom firmware, but irritatingly your WiFi is broken and you’re not able to download ultrasn0w via Cydia. Don’t worry, you can still unlock your iPhone 3GS.

Your device should already be jailbroken by now, because that’s a requirement to unlock your iPhone.

If you haven’t jailbroken your iPhone use this instruction. Do everything until step 17. Done? Then let’s continue below.

1. Download i-FunBox for Windows or DiskAid for Mac.

2. Launch i-FunBox or DiskAid and go to /private/var/root/Media.

3. Inside Media folder create a folder called Cydia.

4. Now inside Cydia folder create an AutoInstall folder. Note: The folder name is case-sensitive so be sure to name it accurately. It should look something like this:

/private/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall

5. Now copy ultrasnow.deb [ultrasn0w_1.2.4.deb] file and MobileSubstrate [mobilesubstrate_0.9.3901_iphoneos-arm.deb] file into AutoInstall folder.

6. Reboot iPhone (remember it’s currently boot tethered! So start redsn0w > Extras > Just Boot).

This tutorial will also work if you have an iPhone 4 baseband 1.59.00.

  2. be sure you put the files in the right folder /private/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall cause there is a identical path but without the '/private' , i mean /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall, if you put ir there the files disappear as it is istalled but it's not. the right path is /private/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall

  3. Thank you, I have 3GS, iOS 5, old version and 06.15.00 baseband.
    1. I had jailbreaked it by following the instructions on this link: http://everythingapplepro.net/?p=408
    2. Than I managed to unlock it by following the instructions on this page you are now.
    3. After that just reboot it one or two times and it should work.
PS: I had my SIM car inserted through the whole process. Oh, I'm not sure if it is relevant but my "3G" mode is turned to "off".

    Thanks again!
