We’ve just returned from our vacation so this post may be a bit dated but we’re going to post it anyway.
If you don’t already know, hackers have officially released the untethered jailbreak for all A4 and earlier devices running iOS 5.0.1. Meanwhile pod2g et al will also be releasing the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Woohoo to Chronic Dev Team and Boohoo for iPhone Dev Team.
Assuming that you have already installed iOS 5.0.1 and already jailbroken it, then the first method below would be a piece of cake.
Method 1: Untethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with Corona
Step 1: Launch Cydia and search for Corona Untether 5.0.1.
Step 2: Tap “Install” and let Cydia do the rest of the job for you.
That’s it! You can now safely reboot your iPhone, iPod, or iPad without using redsn0w or iBooty.

Method 2: Untethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with redsn0w 0.9.10b3
Assuming that you’re already on iOS 5.0.1 but have yet to jailbreak it, then this method is for you.
Step 1: Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b3 from the Dev Team’s website.
Step 2: Plug your iDevice in and put it in DFU mode.
Step 3: Launch RedSn0w and click on “Jailbreak” and select “Install Cydia”.
That’s all you need to do!
What a great start to 2012! Stay tuned for the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4s and iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1. For unlockers, remember to always preserve your baseband with custom firmware!

I can verify this works. I completed method 2 on my iPhone 3GS that was on 5.0 with the iPad baseband 6.15.00. One observation: I was already on the 6.15.00 baseband and on my first attempt the iPhone was showing No Service. I then ran redsn0w a second time and chose Flash iPad Baseband and when redsn0w finished I one again had phone servie with T-Mobile and my iPhone is now untethered. So if you are already on the iPad baseband you may want to re-flash it. My phone service signal is also more stable now when location services are turned on.
@Perry, how do you jb your iPhone 3GS with iPad baseband? i used a cooked ipsw to preserve my bb. But when i tried to JB, it says not Public ipsw…

I tried this but Redsnow just closes after about a minute after it says fetching ipad BB. is there a way to download the BB locally so as not to wait for the download during the flash ?

please explain what u mean by reflash it,..i am also running 6.15.00 ipad bb..i used sn0wbreeze_iPhone 3GS-5.0.1_OBR_iPadBB to unlock my phone,. i have no problems with using tmobile, only problem is corona isnt working,.. im not gettin any error but it wont reboot with out redsn0w.. =[
I've seen this issue before, I reinstalled Corona and it worked fine after that, some may take a while to boot
i solved my problem,.. u ready.. dont laugh ! i was running the OBR on a NBR 3gs.. so i downloaded sn0wbreeze_iPhone 3GS-5.0.1_NBR_iPadBB, and what do u know,.. corona is working perfectly fine,.. ! im pretty sure im not the only person to make this mistake,.. so please make sure ur running the correct bootrom on ur 3gs ! =]

it will jailbreak but won't unlock your baseband… don't be confused between unlock and jailbreak

i upgrade my 3gs 16 gb new boodrom i update cidya everything normally i installed ultrasn0w it;s showing there's service but the problem is when i rebbot my phone it's stuck on apple logo it's corona 5.0.1 untethered dos'nt work or wht's the problem allways i have to use redsn0 to reboot my 3gs

currently going thru the same problem,.. i used sn0wbreeze_iPhone 3GS-5.0.1_OBR_iPadBB for my 3gs jailbreak, and with corona being install i still must use the "just boot" option to reboot ! =[

@Neo When I originally performed the jailbreak on my 3GS, I ran redsn0w and chose jailbreak, install Cydia and Flash the iPad baseband. Redsn0w then performed all of those operations at one time. I then ran ultrasn0w to unlock the iPhone for T-Mobile and it was a tethered jailbreak. I used the iPhone that way for several months until I performed Method #2 above. I followed the directions above with only one change: when I ran redsn0w in Method #2 I selected not only jailbreak, but Install iPad baseband even though my phone was already on that baseband. Basically I re-flashed the iPad baseband to get the untethered jailbreak process to work.
Is there anyway I can jailbreak without a pc? The first time I jail broke I did so via jailbreakme and I didnt need to use a pc is there a way I can do this now?
