Sn0wbreeze v2.9 Builds Untethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Custom Firmware and Supports Older iOS
Posted by Richard Kerr on Tuesday Jan 17, 2012 Under HackI was wondering why it took a while for iH8sn0w to release the latest version of redsn0w. He actually planned it for the special release today in conjunction with sn0wbreeze’s 2nd year anniversary.

Sn0wbreeze is my favorite tool to create custom firmware as it will always guarantee that your baseband is preserved.
iH8sn0w has just released version 2.9 and he announced it on his blog:
sn0wbreeze v2.9 [Two year anniversary]
- Happy birthday sn0wbreeze!
- Brought back old firmware support in one release!
- GUI Improvements
- You can now build IPSWs with TinyUmbrella/iFaith blobs!
- Removes OTA Updates/badge on iOS 5.x.x+ devices.
- Added an IPSW Downloader
- Built-in iREB functionality updated from newest iREB r5 module.
- Custom Packages in Expert actually works now.

- All supported firmwares in this release are untethered.
- A5 devices are NOT supported at this time due to no public DFU/iBoot exploit.
Supported iOS Revisions:
- Supports iOS 3.1.3
- Supports iOS 3.2.x
- Supports iOS 4.0.x
- Supports iOS 4.1
- Supports iOS 4.2.1 – 4.2.8
- Supports iOS 4.3 – 4.3.3
- Supports iOS 5.0.1
- iOS 4.3.4/4.3.5/4.4.x/5.0 support coming soon
You can download it from iH8sn0w’s website or a mirror download link is here.
I’m also building custom iOS 5.0.1 firmware for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 and will make them available for download in the next 48 hours (use these files at your own risks!):
- iPhone 3GS old bootrom custom iOS 5.0.1, hacktivated and jailbroken, no baseband update
- iPhone 3GS old bootrom custom iOS 5.0.1, hacktivated and jailbroken, baseband 6.15.00 (Be careful not to flash iPad baseband on newer 3GS. Read this warning!)
- iPhone 3GS new bootrom custom iOS 5.0.1, hacktivated and jailbroken, no baseband update
- iPhone 3GS new bootrom custom iOS 5.0.1, hacktivated and jailbroken, baseband 6.15.00 (Be careful not to flash iPad baseband on newer 3GS. Read this warning!)
- iPhone 3GS old bootrom custom iOS 5.0.1, not hacktivated, not jailbroken, no baseband update (you must have the original carrier SIM for activation)
- iPhone 3GS new bootrom custom iOS 5.0.1, not hacktivated, not jailbroken, no baseband update (you must have the original carrier SIM for activation)
- iPhone 4 custom iOS 5.0.1, hacktivated and jailbroken, no baseband update
Before restoring your iPhone with a custom firmware, please make sure that you use iREB or redsn0w to pawn DFU your phone first.
Enjoy and Happy Chinese New Year!

if you use sn0wbreeze, you must use original firmware to build a custom firmware

Been reading your blog for a while now, great posts, thank you! I jailbroke my 4S and iPad 2 successfully as a result.
I have a question regarding our iPhone 4 Firmware 4.3.5 on BB 4.10.01 (Unlock using Gevey Ultra from Applenberry) on T-Mobile. (We have an AT&T micro-sim, already activated on my iPhone 4S, don't know if this helps?)
We want to upgrade the iPhone 4 to 5.0.1 and jailbreak it before Apple stops signing it.
I used tried with PwnageTool today on my Mac (w/ Lion OS X) to create a Custom IPSW. I then Pwned DFU and tried to alt+restore. I'm getting the error 1601 as it starts to prepare the restore. The phone itself is fine, it still boots up and works on 4.3.5 BB 4.10.01.
Based on my research I think this is either a host file issue and its pointing towards Apple or Cydia servers by accident (but I see nothing wrong in my host file), or its not entering DFU mode properly?
Can you help me understand what the error is?
If needed I can use Redsnow to DFU it ONLY, and then that way I can use the PwnageTool Custom IPSW already created to restore via iTunes.
If not, will this snOwbreeze version work to get me past the 1601 error?
Thanks! (Sorry for the long post!)

Didn't you already supply the "custom firmware" which "ZC" has mentioned as "i4 custom iOS 5.0.1 hactivated, jailbroken no baseband update"?
Why would he need to use an original firmware if you're supplying the custom firmware?
In other words…what is the custom ipsw that you've supplied used for? Redsnow or iReb DFU only?

hi, thanks! try using the custom firmware above, and use redsn0w to pwn DFU, 1601 can also be related with a corrupted firmware
January 23rd, 2012 at 7:32 pm
I believe he/she wants to build his/her own custom firmware

Stuck in apple logo screen after installing iPhone 3GS new bootrom custom iOS 5.0.1, hacktivated and jailbroken, no baseband update – 3gs new bootroom 5.16.05
January 25th, 2012 at 12:20 pm
Activation screen showed up after ~10 min wait. Was able to activate the phone – No Wifi, Bluetooth. Restarts automatically within few mins and takes ~5 mins to launch home screen. Carrier unlock did not work

Hi I have iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1 (BB 03.10.01) and unlocking it using Gevey SIM. Should I bother creating my own firmware or using your firmware? What is the point of preserving the 03.10.01 baseband which could not be unlocked anyway? Can I just upgrade to iOS 5.0.1, jailbreak it, then use Gevey SIM to unlock it? Thanks!
January 26th, 2012 at 3:20 pm
it will prevent your baseband from being updated to 4.11.08, and you won't be able to use Gevey to unlock it
January 26th, 2012 at 11:37 pm
Oh I totally forgot about Gevey. How stupid of me. Will Gevey works with iOS5.0.1 BB 03.10.01? At their website they stated that their Gevey Ultra SIM works with iOS5.0.1 BB 04.10.1. They didn't specifically mention 03.10.01. Should I first upgrade to iOS 4.3.3 to ge 04.10.01 then only I preserve the baseband and upgrade to iOS5.0.1? Cydia did backup my 4.3.3 SHSH blob file.
January 26th, 2012 at 11:38 pm
Or Could I just use your custom firmware?
January 27th, 2012 at 2:15 pm
if it works on 4.10.01, it will work on earlier baseband
January 27th, 2012 at 2:15 pm
just use the custom firmware, it will preserve it
