MuscleNerd: Jailbreakers and Unlockers Avoid iOS 5.0.1 or Else No Way to Downgrade to iOS 5.0

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic!

Despite there are tools already available to jailbreak (tethered) iOS 5.0.1, MuscleNerd still warned jailbreakers and unlockers to stay away from iOS 5.0.1 otherwise there’s no way to downgrade to iOS 5.0.

MuscleNerd twitted earlier today:

“Jailbreakers and unlockers should avoid today’s 5.0.1 until a flow for downgrading to 5.0 is developed.”

Apple is doing all they can to avoid iPhone users to downgrade their device to early versions of iOS. Even if you have saved your SHSH before, potentially you won’t be able to restore to any earlier iOS version at all. MuscleNerd wrote about this on their blog a few weeks ago when iOS 5 was still in beta stage. In one of the paragraphs MuscleNerd specifically mentioned:

“Starting with the iOS5 beta, the role of the “APTicket” is changing — it’s being used much like the “BBTicket” has always been used.  The LLB and iBoot stages of the boot sequence are being refined to depend on the authenticity of the APTicket, which is uniquely generated at each and every restore (in other words, it doesn’t depend merely on your ECID and firmware version…it changes every time you restore, based partly on a random number).  This APTicket authentication will happen at every boot, not just at restore time.  Because only Apple has the crypto keys to properly sign the per-restore APTicket, replayed APTickets are useless.”

You can read the details here.

It’s always nice to update to the latest iOS 5.0.1, but if you really rely on an unlock or jailbreak, it’s better to wait and be patient until proper tools are released.
