This seems to be the most promising news for those who are stuck on baseband 4.11.08. Read on to learn more.

About two months ago an unknown hacker called hamzah_akram explored the possibility of erasing iPhone 4 baseband information. He was able to erase it but wasn’t sure how to proceed from there.

However, after countless hours he made a breakthrough and has successfully unlocked baseband 4.11.08. Based on his blog and his tweets, it’s very likely that he modified the iOS 5 IPSW file and SIM interposer i.e. Gevey Turbo SIM to make the unlock work.

On his Twitter today:

“Dear guys! the up coming nice thing for all of you is called #react0r ! #4.11.08 …. No donation required! this will end the #4.11.08 age!.”

So far there are no further details on how this news and he intends to make this unlock method available free of charge to the masses.

True or false? Only time will tell.

If you have a Gevey Ultra, chances are that you’re not able to use it properly since iOS 5.0 was released. Now that the untethered jailbreak is available for iOS 5.0.1, you can patch FuriousMod to make it fully working again. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Install iOS 5.0.1 on your iPhone 4 using custom firmware to preserve your baseband.

Step 2: Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using redsn0w 0.9.10b3 or Corona by following the steps here.

Step 3: Add the following source to your Cydia Sources to install it.

http://cydia.myrepospace.com/Squuiid/

That’s all to it! If you have an older Gevey Turbo SIM just use the 112 steps which you should already know by now.

Please note that baseband 4.11.08 is not supported!

We’ve just returned from our vacation so this post may be a bit dated but we’re going to post it anyway.

If you don’t already know, hackers have officially released the untethered jailbreak for all A4 and earlier devices running iOS 5.0.1. Meanwhile pod2g et al will also be releasing the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Woohoo to Chronic Dev Team and Boohoo for iPhone Dev Team.

Assuming that you have already installed iOS 5.0.1 and already jailbroken it, then the first method below would be a piece of cake.

Method 1: Untethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with Corona

Step 1: Launch Cydia and search for Corona Untether 5.0.1.

Step 2: Tap “Install” and let Cydia do the rest of the job for you.

That’s it! You can now safely reboot your iPhone, iPod, or iPad without using redsn0w or iBooty.

Method 2: Untethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with redsn0w 0.9.10b3

Assuming that you’re already on iOS 5.0.1 but have yet to jailbreak it, then this method is for you.

Step 1: Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b3 from the Dev Team’s website.

Step 2: Plug your iDevice in and put it in DFU mode.

Step 3: Launch RedSn0w and click on “Jailbreak” and select “Install Cydia”.

That’s all you need to do!

What a great start to 2012! Stay tuned for the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4s and iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1. For unlockers, remember to always preserve your baseband with custom firmware!

iPhone 4 and 3GS users on jailbroken iOS 5.0.1 can now install ultrasn0w 1.2.5 to unlock their iPhones.

How to install ultrasn0w 1.2.5

Before you start, please remove the SIM card from your iPhone.

Step 1: Launch Cydia from the springboard.

Step 2: Tap on Manage.

Step 3: Search for ultrasn0w on Packages in Cydia. If you cannot find it, add new Source by typing: ‘repo666.ultrasn0w.com‘ (…sn0w = the digit zero, not O)

Step 4: A new ultrasnow package will be installed. Once done, go to Packages and look for ultrasnow. Tap and install it. During installation, you will see a black screen with running command lines.

Step 5: Reboot your iPhone and insert your SIM card. Toggle the Airplane mode to ON and then OFF. Your iPhone will search and register to your mobile phone network.

Please be patient, sometimes it may take up to 3 minutes. If it doesn’t register, reboot your iPhone again.

This updated version of ultrasn0w doesn’t unlock newer basebands. It only supports the following:

• 4.26.08
• 5.11.07
• 5.12.01
• 5.13.04
• 6.15.00 (iPad’s baseband implanted into iPhone)
• 1.59.00 (iPhone 4)

If the jailbreak is tethered, do not forget to use redsn0w or iBooty to tether boot your iPhone. Otherwise you will be stuck on the Apple logo.

Earlier this month I blogged about iFaith v1.4 by hacker iH8sn0w which allows you to save SHSH blobs and create signed custom firmware. The updated version is now available for download which has major bug fixes. It was announced on his Twitter a few hours ago:

Oh… there’s still no unlock for 4.11.08 yet.

A few days ago, pod2g had announced that the jailbreak for iOS and iOS 5.0.1 is finally untethered. You can follow his blog to get the latest updates.

This is a great news for many people because the last untethered jailbreak released was almost 6 months ago by @comex who did it on www.jailbreakme.com. Since he’s already out of the jailbreaking picture, no one had even come close and you can only see empty tweets on Twitter by various hackers.

@pod2g is not new to jailbreaking and he’s been instrumental in releasing jailbreak tools such as greenp0ison for iOS 4.2.1.

He also claimed that the jailbreak works on iOS 5.0.1 but so far it’s only tested on A4-based devices. iPhone 4S and iPad 2 would probably work as well however there’s no official confirmation from him just yet.
