If you’re stuck on iPad baseband, I know it’s been a long wait but MuscleNerd had successfully downgraded the first iPhone 3GS with iPad baseband 6.15.00 to 5.13.04.

This downgrader tool will help those who managed to get their iPhone 3GS officially unlocked from AT&T and of course would help resolve the dreaded GPS issue with iPad baseband 6.15.00.
If you see MuscleNerd’s tweet above, the method seems to work without any issue. While there’s still no unlock available for baseband 5.14.02, 5.15.04, 5.16.02 and 5.16.05, this tool will help unlock your iPhone 3G or 3GS without resorting to iPad baseband.
Here’s how I envision this tool to work (most likely will be made available via redsn0w):
- Using redsn0w, go to Extras > Jailbreak > Install iPad baseband.
- Once the flash is successful, go to Extras > More > Downgrade Baseband to 5.13.04.
- Redsn0w will do its magic and downgrades the baseband from 6.15.00 to 5.13.04.
- With baseband 5.13.04, you can then unlock it with ultrasn0w and have your GPS working once more!
That would be amazing! Unfortunately, those with newer NOR chip might not be able to enjoy this as flashing the iPad baseband will brick your logic board. Essentially, this is really just for iPhone 3GS (and 3G) made before week 28 of 2011.
Another risk from this method is the process of flashing iPad baseband, there’s a small percentage of failure which will wipe out your baseband chip’s IMEI, WiFi and Bluetooth information.
If the tool is to be made available soon, it will definitely take some loads off from our baseband chip replacement service but that will help us concentrate on fixing iPhone 4/4S and finding potential unlocks for baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01.
