After 4 months since the last software update, iOS 6 is finally here. Let’s see what are the changes especially the modem firmware or baseband.

UPDATE: AT&T iPhone can now be factory unlocked, click here for details.

 

Here’s the updated baseband version for all iOS 6 supported iPhones:

• iPhone 5 – new baseband 1.00.16
• iPhone 4  – 4.12.02 up from 4.12.01
• iPhone 4S – 3.0.04 up from 2.0.12
• iPhone 3GS – 5.16.07 up from 5.16.05

The biggest revision is the baseband for iPhone 4S which has been updated from the current version 2.0.12. The exploits used for Gevey Ultra S is presumably blocked, we’ll have this tested over the next few days.

If you don’t have an official unlock, you should stay away from any latest software update because currently there’s no method available to preserve your baseband or to unlock new baseband.

If you accidentally updated to iOS 6, there’s a chance that you can still downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 for untethered jailbreak while this version is still being signed. Quick steps:

1. Download iOS 5.1.1 original firmware for your iPhone
2. Launch iTunes and press shift+restore (Windows) or Option+Restore (Mac)
3. Point it to iOS 5.1.1 you just downloaded
4. Wait for restore to complete

Note: If you don’t have the SHSH for earlier iOS version, chances are that you won’t be able to downgrade anymore once Apple stops signing iOS 5.1.1 (should be within 24-48 hours from now).

SAM unlock method may work as long as SAM pref is fully supported on iOS 6, if you’ve saved your activation ticket and  provided that Apple didn’t setup a way of blocking this method.

If you have an AT&T iPhone, you can officially unlock it using this.

• Passes are location and time-based, appearing on the lock screen when relevant.

• Notification Center

• Update Facebook status or Tweet from new widget.
• Message previews can now be toggled on/off for alerts.
• Calendar now shows the current date in the title bar.
• Shows ending times for Calendar events.

• Photos

• Shared Photo Streams. Photos can be shared with other contacts. Photos shared can be commented on and liked. Notifications are enabled for when a contact shares a photo with the user.
• New sharing menu using new icons. Has options for Twitter (with new icon), Facebook, Weibo (when Chinese keyboard is enabled), as well as Copy, Use Wallpaper, Print.
• Videos can be uploaded to Youku and Tudou when the Chinese keyboard is enabled.
• Constantly shows a button to create new Albums.

• Music

• New streamlined UI with white and black themes.
• Late Night Mode equaliser.

• Settings

• “Bluetooth” moved to top of Settings list.
• Added “Do Not Disturb” mode, allowing users to avoid calls and notifications unless calling parties are on the user’s Favorites group. A crescent moon icon will appear in the status bar when enabled. Has no effect when the screen is on.
• Added in Notifications: Government warnings and AMBER Alerts (toggle on/off).
• New Privacy Controls. Apps must now ask for permission to access the users photos, calendars, contacts and reminders.
• Revised Settings icon, similar to that of the OS X System Preferences app icon.
• New gear animation in the Settings app shown whilst downloading an over-the-air update.
• Usage: Time Since Last Full Charge now available for more devices (iPad 2 and later, & iPod Touch (4th generation) and later; no longer iPhone only).
• Enable 3G under Cellular setting (iPhone).
