Just last month, people are complaining about the ambient light sensor of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X are not working after third-party screen replacement.

This is also happening even with genuine screen replacement.

For some reason, the replacement will trigger a component within the logic board to turn off the ability of the device to adjust the screen brightness.

We performed our own sets of tests below.

After testing on an iPhone 8 by replacing with a China-made screen, we had the same issue of ambient light sensor not working.

Even with a genuine part replacement, the ambient light sensor still didn’t work properly.

There’s no real pattern shown but it seems to be affecting a large number of devices.

Based on some reports, the failure rate is around 30-40% out of the devices fixed.

For those who run a repair shop like us and people who like to do DIY repairs, this can be a big problem. You can’t enjoy a low cost service compared to the one offered by Apple.

The only fix for now is to get it fixed at an official Apple store or at an authorized repair center.

We’re also checking all the different components within the logic board to see how Apple put this restriction. We will update this article soon.

Please leave your comments below if you manage to find a workaround.
