Just a few days ago Apple officially released iOS 7.1 which is a major update since iOS 7 was released back in September 2013. If you encountered any problem, try these fixes.
In case you plan to update your iPhone to iOS 7.1, you may want to read these first so that you are better prepared in case something goes wrong.
A quick and easy fix to many issues can be resolved by doing a soft reset on your device. To do this:
1. Press and hold home and sleep/wake button simultaneously.
2. Keep on pressing for 5-10 seconds until the Apple logo appears. This will not erase your data.
In case you’re stuck with one of the following problems, you can try the possible fixes as described below.
1. Touch ID is not working after updating to iOS 7.1 (iPhone 5s)
A huge number of iPhone 5s users are experiencing this problem after updating to iOS 7.1
The ‘iPhone Unlock’ in Settings option seems to be turned off after updating to iOS 7.1, try to turn it on again and it should restore the Touch ID functionality.
2. Dark keyboard is missing in iOS 7.1
Many people have reported that this feature is no longer available in iOS 7.1.
However, if you install US keyboard for your device, the dark keyboard should be available. Do take note that the name has been changed to Bold Font.
3. WiFi and/or data not working after iOS 7.1 update
You’re not able to connect to the internet after updating to iOS 7.1? The easiest fix to this would be to reset your network connection.
Simply go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Connection.
Do note that you will lose all stored WiFi password in your device.
4. The background of 4 icon apps at the bottom of the screen turned to gray in iOS 7.1
This is an easy fix and is not an issue with iOS 7.1. To fix it:
Look at Settings > General > Accessibility.
Then change Increase Contrast > Reduce Transparency to OFF.
5. iPhone is no longer jailbroken after updating iOS 7.1 (Cydia Missing)
Well, currently there’s no way to jailbreak iOS 7.1. You will have to wait for now.
6. iPhone is not charging after updating to iOS 7.1
This is a very odd issue affecting some iPhone users after updating their devices. You can try on of the followings:
Clean the lightning connector, also check the charging port of your iPhone to make sure there’s nothing stuck inside it
Try a different cable
Plug your iPhone into a wall outlet for approximately 20 minutes then try a reset by pressing and holding the home and power buttons until the white Apple logo appears as explained here
7. Unable to activate iPhone after updating to iOS 7.1
If you bought the iPhone from someone, chances are it has the iOS 7 activation lock enabled. Activation what? You can read more about it here. If you haven’t restored it, best to verify first otherwise you won’t be able to use your iPhone or iPad after that.
8. Keyboard lag, delay or slow response when typing in iOS 7.1
If you installed multiple keyboards on your device, that may be the problem. If the soft reset procedure above doesn’t work, try the following:
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
9. Battery drains fast with iOS 7.1
Battery issue will always occur every time Apple releases an update but nothing seems to fix battery issue problems.
A few things you can try:
Disable location services, auto update etc.
Disable background app refresh
Terminate unused apps running in the background
Turn off Bluetooth
Do a full restore but do not restore from backup (setup as new)
Some of you who are new to iPhone may ask, is it possible to downgrade iOS 7.1 to 7.0.6 or any earlier version of iOS? Unfortunately, this is not possible and Apple will do anything they can to prevent people from downgrading their device.
The above are just some of the possible solutions to the issue you might encounter when updating iOS 7.1. If all fails, the last option would be visiting your nearest Apple Store.
