How to Update Verizon iPhone 5 Carrier Settings to Fix High Data Consumption

Got your Verizon iPhone 5 and feeling that it’s consuming data like crazy? Apparently this is a known issue and can be fixed quite easily.

To fix this, simply go to Settings > General > About, and wait for the following message:

“Carrier Settings Updated: To install important new settings, tap OK, then press and hold the power button, drag the slider, and restart.”

Once the update is complete, you should see the carrier version updated to 13.1.

Here’s a statement issued by Verizon, and don’t worry, they won’t charge you for the extreme data usage.

“Under certain circumstances, iPhone 5 may use Verizon cellular data while the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Apple has a fix that is being delivered to Verizon customers right on their iPhone 5. Verizon Wireless customers will not be charged for any unwarranted cellular data usage.”
