When the iPhone 3G and 3GS ultrasn0w carrier unlock came out 2 weeks ago, it made everyone excited and liberated thousands or probably millions of iPhones.
UPDATE: Forget about installing iPad baseband on your iPhone, make it officially unlocked without hacking or jailbreaking here.
Everyone knows that it was made possible through the use of iPad’s baseband version 6.15.00. iPhone 3G and 3GS’ original basebands 5.14.02 and 5.15.04 were left in the dark, and probably can never be unlocked, ever.
So, if you plan to implant iPad’s baseband 6.15.00 into your iPhone 3G or 3GS, you may want to read and consider the following:
- There is no software downgrade procedure available once your baseband has been upgraded to 6.15.00. However, @MuscleNerd is currently working on this.
- If you have a baseband 6.15.00, you will NOT be able to restore using the original firmware. That means iTunes will give you an error message if you try to restore it directly from there. You can only do it via a custom or ‘cooked’ firmware created with redsn0w or other tools such as sn0wbreeze.
- GPS will not work properly (or not working at all!) on your iPhone due to this baseband although a fix is said to be on the horizon.
- You will void any Apple warranties as they can easily detect this baseband if you bring it in for service.
- The resale value of your iPhone may be lesser due to the above, that’s if you intend to sell it at one point. Otherwise, this is not really an issue.
- UPDATE: iPhone 3GS produced after week 28 of year 2011 is not compatible with iPad baseband. Read here.
If these do not bother you at all then you are ready to unlock your iPhone. You can follow the steps here. Alternatively, we provide hardware unlock by replacing the baseband chip which contains iPhone’s original baseband 5.13.04 which is already unlockable. This will eliminate most of the issues above.
Hi, i have a 3GS serial 86930xxx, MC139DN/A, factory unlocked (i've checked the IMEI, it says the carrier is orange, what i use, in fact).
I installed ios5.1 (apple-stock firmware). After the installation, it didn't want to activate (with my orange sim). So, i updated to ipad baseband – 06.15.00 (redsn0w), then applied ultrasn0w, so it saw the network.
The phone now work strange, it freezes alot and restart, without any tweaks/ipa applications installed.
I understood that i cannot go back from the ipad baseband to the original baseband.
My question: If the phone was factory unlocked, now it has the 06.15.00 baseband, can I install a Apple ios 5.1 firmware (to have a unjailbreak phone, with working iBooks/gps, able to update future ios from itunes)?
Thanks in advance,
you can only install custom firmware from now on
Can anyone help me out? I have an IPhone 3 that was updated to ios 5.1 (9B176) and has 05.16.05 firmware on it and I need it jailbroken! Please help!
use redsn0w to jailbreak it, but there's no way to unlock it
HI – i have a 3GS, ios 5.1, baseband 05.16.05, not jailbroken. Any chance for me to get my device unlocked without risking the GPS? (besides a baseband chip replacement)
no
thanks to the idiot prick at red snows who said SAFE BEFORE WEEK 34…..SO NOW I HAVE A BRICK FOREVER IT SEEMS BEING ITS A 2011 WEEK 33
it's actually week 28 to be safe
iPhone 3g here with iOS 4.2.1(BC148) and Modern Firmware 05.15.04. Can this iPhone be unlocked and if so, how? I jailbroke it using Cydia and then tried ultrasn0w but then uninstalled ultrasn0w. Phone currently does not pick up internet as it used to. What can I do to unlock it? If no unlock, then how can I restore it?
ultrasn0w doesn't work on 5.15.04, go to http://ih8sn0w.com/ and download f0recast, if your bootloader is 5.8 you can downgrade it to 5.13.04, then unlock with ultrasn0w
Otherwise 6.15.00 is the only way to go…
Hello,
I have a iphone 3gs that was running on 5.0.1 unthethered jailbreak with unlocked 6.15.00 baseband. It recently started giving me problems to a point where it just became stuck on the apple logo and wouldnt boot up. I tried everything to run a 5.0.1 custom firmware restore but nothing worked. I eventually updated the phone on Itunes to official 5.1 firmware. After doing that it still did not boot up and is sill stuck at the apple logo. What can i do to fix this?
did you restore using custom 5.1? the boot is tethered, use redsn0w > extras > just boot or iBooty for 5.1
Yes i did do it with custom 5.1 after the official 5.1 update. I tried just boot with both ibooty and redsnow but nothing works, im still stuck at the logo.
rebuild your custom firmware
Now how would i exactly do this and with what program(s)?
redsn0w
Yes i tried it with redsnow but after the jailbreak it still does not boot up and is stuck at the apple logo. I did the boot tethered option as well.
how about using sn0wbreeze's baseband preservation mode, which is stock firmware but preserving your baseband
I also have done that but i get the same problem.
do it on another computer
Ok i did this on another computer but it still gets stuck at the apple logo. Is there anyway i can completely erase everything from the iphone or do a master reset? Any other ways to fix this problem?
restore to 4.1, use custom firmware
How is this possible i though i cant downgrade from 5.1 if i dont have the shsh blobs? What is the process i would do this?
iOS 4.1 is being signed (oddly), so no SHSH needed
Ok so i did it but now the only difference is that the apple logo is there with a spinning circle that doesn't leave
did you use a custom or stock firmware? try using custom
I wanted to use redsnow and preserve baseband but it says only 4.3.3 is supported. What should i do now?
check if you have the shsh for 5.0.1
Here is some additional info that should help:
I did a custom restore using snowbreeze with 4.1 firmware and chose the option to install cydia and install the 6.15.00 baseband again. After it restores i get the apple logo and slightly below the apple logo there is a spinning circle and i cannot get past this.
Here is more info of my problem: I have restored the phone with snowbreeze to jailbreak and install the 6.15.00 baseband again using 4.1 firmware. Now when the phone loads up it just stays on the apple logo with a spinning circle right below it. Any ideas?
can't think of anything else…. try to remove the battery and leave it for a day… then reassemble and try again
Hi, assistance needed please… I recently upgraded my iphone 3GS bb 6.15.00 serial **010 and model MC131B to iOS 5.1.1 using the latest iTunes and jailbroke it using ReSn0w… now my phone shows no service and I have problems with my WiFi. how do I get this fixed… plus I think I want to downgrade to a 5.13.04 and still run the iOS 5.1.1 firmware. How do I do this please.
is the IMEI missing? see here https://www.beijingiphonerepair.com/store/#ecwid:c…
Hello,
I have iphone 3GS/ bb 5.16.05 /ios 5.1.1/new botroom/ manufacturd W49 2009 , I jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.14b1to install cydia application without problem.
Now what is your recommendation to unlock:
1) upgrade to iPad’s baseband 6.15.00 and then to downgrade to 05.13.14 with redsnow then ultrasnow
2) update to iPad’s baseband 06.15.00 only then ultrasnow?
Is it possible according to my configuration? Thanks for your help.
update to 6.15.00 – downgrade to 5.13.04 – unlock with ultrasn0w, if it's an AT&T iPhone unlock it permanently using https://www.beijingiphonerepair.com/att
